Watchmen movie and invocation

I’ve not seen the Watchmen movie yet, and somewhat doubt the nihilism and cold war angst will hit a nerve today as it did when the comic was first published in the 1980’s.
But the point I’m getting at isn’t about the Watchmen movie, whether the movie breaks new ground or is profitable or not – the original Watchmen comic by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons DID those things! Alan Moore took classic superhero archetypes and blended them with a novelist’s sense of character development and character depth. What sort of person would dress up in fancy tights and fight crime for real?
So the brilliance that is the Watchmen source material has, really, modest origins. Any writer with some talent, were they willing to break formula – could have come up with something similar. But it didn’t happen, Alan Moore did it first. And in the form of comic book, Watchmen became one of the most successful comic book projects of all time.
So what what does that have to do with business or magic? Actually, everything.
A problem with starting an online business, or any business really – is that most often the business person is adhering to an established winning formula. Of course there’s an awful lot to learn from a winning business formula. But there’s an issue of diminishing returns. The best copywriting skills become impotent when buyers are overexposed to them. Mini sites have made many people lots of money, also tend to all look the same! Exposure to one bad scam will make that design style toxic to sales no matter who is using it!
And, let’s face it – it’s not rewarding. You can focus like a shark on the money – but that’s not going to allow you the success that delivering value to your customers will.
And it’s not like there’s not enough new ideas, new ideas are limitless. Something magical happens when an idea is YOUR idea – it becomes FUN! And this is actually a secret of life! Life should be fun, expressing yourself is fun! You achieve transforming business into play by expressing your ideas, new ideas!
Those that study nature and evolution have come to understand an axiom of nature: nature abhors a vacuum! Which basically suggests that every opportunity provided in nature, is exploited by something in nature. This principle is true for business as well. Just because it doesn’t exist yet – if you can imagine it and wanting it – it’s fairly safe that others will too. Such is the genius of Apple’s Steve Jobs – knowing what he wants and clearly -in his imagination.
Of course there is one problem. You’re not Alan Moore, you’re not Steve jobs. Your mind simply doesn’t have the ‘genius’ theirs does.
But you don’t have to accept that limitation. There are mentally ill people with multiple personalities, do you imagine you with your healthy brain are in any way less capable?
This is where invocation comes in. If you lack for ideas it’s more likely you simply understand yourself to be so incapable. What if you could borrow someone elses mind?
Christian prayer, Buddhist and Hindu mantras are orthodox forms of invocation. And if you are religious, religious invocation coupled with the request for business insight may well deliver you ideas you can call your own with which you may make a fortune.
But religious powers are abstract. It is possible to invoke ANYONE. Chaos magicians have been known to invoke fictional characers to good effect. New Age practitioners invoke ‘higher selves’ commonly, and get advice and insight that way.
What I’d reccomend is invoking historical figures that inspire you. What would DaVinci do as a business were he alive to day? Invoke Davinci and find out! As a mentally damaged person can assume multiple personalities – by invoking and simply imagining the influence of another’s mind in your mind – it can become awesomely ‘real’. This is a sure fire way to get your thinking out of a rut!
As for – ‘how do I invoke’? You certainly should say out loud that you do invoke the person/spirit. Incense and candles can set a mood, excite your imagination and empower the process. But most important, entertain the idea that the invocation is REAL, and imagine you are benefitiing from the insight and thinking of the invoked entity. Invocation may be a function of ‘fake it till you make it’ even – but it won’t take long for this process to deliver dividends. It’s spooky! try it!
