Chaos Magic is a metaparadigm, a way to understand magic that allows you to get superior results from any other paradigm, or create your own.

In Hoodoo magic, Biblical Pslams are used for their occult potential. This is a time honored tradition, especially the use of the 23rd Psalm.

Now I will take the Lucky mojo correspondence course in Hoodoo soon, and in that context I’ll be practicing extremely orthodox Hoodoo.

But on my own, I’m a Chaos magician, I mix what I believe the be the best ideas from multiple paradigms.

Now when it comes to language in spells, those that use a non English language, be it Enochian or a even made up language – it excites the imagination and the results can be terribly powerful.

In Catholic circles there’s much attachment to the Latin Mass. Most people don’t understand Latin, it is a dead language after all, but a Latin mass can seem more powerful than one in English.

The Psalms – are available in Latin, in the Catholic Vulgate! If barking the King James Psalm 23 is powerful and effective – how much more powerful might the same Psalm be in LATIN?

Now, the Latin Vulgate’s  Psalms are numbered differently for some reason than the King James. Psalm 23 is 22 in the Vulgate for example.

Classical Latin is generally pronounced the way it is written, with a few exceptions — to our ears: v is pronounced as a wi is sometimes pronounced as a y. As distinct from Church Latin (or modern Italian), g is always pronounced like the g in gap; like gc is also hard and always sounds like the c in cap; and ae is a diphthong pronounced like eye.

Here then, some famous and useful Pslams, in Latin (numbered after the King James).

Psalm 23 (the most popular Psalm used for success and money spells especially)

Dominus regit me, et nihil mihi deerit :
in loco pascuæ, ibi me collocavit.
Super aquam refectionis educavit me ;
animam meam convertit.
Deduxit me super semitas justitiæ
propter nomen suum.
Nam etsi ambulavero in medio umbræ mortis,
non timebo mala, quoniam tu mecum es.
Virga tua, et baculus tuus,
ipsa me consolata sunt.
Parasti in conspectu meo mensam
adversus eos qui tribulant me ;
impinguasti in oleo caput meum :
et calix meus inebrians, quam præclarus est !
Et misericordia tua subsequetur me
omnibus diebus vitæ meæ ;
et ut inhabitem in domo Domini
in longitudinem dierum.

Psalm #3 (used in one example spell, to break up a love affair)

Domine, quid multiplicati sunt qui tribulant me ?
Multi insurgunt adversum me ;
multi dicunt animæ meæ :
Non est salus ipsi in Deo ejus.
Tu autem Domine, susceptor meus es,
gloria mea, et exaltans caput meum.
Voce mea ad Dominum clamavi ;
et exaudivit me de monte sancto suo.
Ego dormivi, et soporatus sum ;
et exsurrexi, quia Dominus suscepit me.
Non timebo millia populi circumdantis me.
Exsurge, Domine ; salvum me fac, Deus meus.
Quoniam tu percussisti omnes adversantes mihi sine causa ;
dentes peccatorum contrivisti.
Domini est salus ;
et super populum tuum benedictio tua.

Psalm 26 (used in an example spell to overcome a bad habit)

Judica me, Domine, quoniam ego in innocentia mea ingressus sum,
et in Domino sperans non infirmabor.
Proba me, Domine, et tenta me ;
ure renes meos et cor meum.
Quoniam misericordia tua ante oculos meos est,
et complacui in veritate tua.
Non sedi cum concilio vanitatis,
et cum iniqua gerentibus non introibo.
Odivi ecclesiam malignantium,
et cum impiis non sedebo.
Lavabo inter innocentes manus meas,
et circumdabo altare tuum, Domine :
ut audiam vocem laudis,
et enarrem universa mirabilia tua.
Domine, dilexi decorem domus tuæ,
et locum habitationis gloriæ tuæ.
Ne perdas cum impiis, Deus, animam meam,
et cum viris sanguinum vitam meam :
in quorum manibus iniquitates sunt ;
dextera eorum repleta est muneribus.
Ego autem in innocentia mea ingressus sum ;
redime me, et miserere mei.
Pes meus stetit in directo ;
in ecclesiis benedicam te, Domine.

Psalm 1 (used in a sample spell to settle a disturbed condition in the home)

Beatus vir qui non abiit in consilio impiorum,
et in via peccatorum non stetit,
et in cathedra pestilentiæ non sedit ;
sed in lege Domini voluntas ejus,
et in lege ejus meditabitur die ac nocte.
Et erit tamquam lignum quod plantatum est secus decursus aquarum,
quod fructum suum dabit in tempore suo :
et folium ejus non defluet ;
et omnia quæcumque faciet prosperabuntur.
Non sic impii, non sic ;
sed tamquam pulvis quem projicit ventus a facie terræ.
Ideo non resurgent impii in judicio,
neque peccatores in concilio justorum :
quoniam novit Dominus viam justorum,
et iter impiorum peribit.

Psalm 11 (used in a sample spell to win or hold Happiness)

Salvum me fac, Domine, quoniam defecit sanctus,
quoniam diminutæ sunt veritates a filiis hominum.
Vana locuti sunt unusquisque ad proximum suum ;
labia dolosa, in corde et corde locuti sunt.
Disperdat Dominus universa labia dolosa,
et linguam magniloquam.
Qui dixerunt : Linguam nostram magnificabimus ;
labia nostra a nobis sunt.
Quis noster dominus est ?
Propter miseriam inopum, et gemitum pauperum,
nunc exsurgam, dicit Dominus.
Ponam in salutari ;
fiducialiter agam in eo.
Eloquia Domini, eloquia casta ; argentum igne examinatum,
probatum terræ, purgatum septuplum.
Tu, Domine, servabis nos,
et custodies nos a generatione hac in æternum.
In circuitu impii ambulant :
secundum altitudinem tuam multiplicasti filios hominum.

Psalm 41 (used in a sample spell to gain prosperity)

Beatus qui intelligit super egenum et pauperem :
in die mala liberabit eum Dominus.
Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum,
et beatum faciat eum in terra,
et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum ejus.
Dominus opem ferat illi super lectum doloris ejus ;
universum stratum ejus versasti in infirmitate ejus.
Ego dixi : Domine, miserere mei ;
sana animam meam, quia peccavi tibi.
Inimici mei dixerunt mala mihi :
Quando morietur, et peribit nomen ejus ?
Et si ingrediebatur ut videret, vana loquebatur ;
cor ejus congregavit iniquitatem sibi.
Egrediebatur foras et loquebatur.
In idipsum adversum me susurrabant omnes inimici mei ;
adversum me cogitabant mala mihi.
Verbum iniquum constituerunt adversum me :
Numquid qui dormit non adjiciet ut resurgat ?
Etenim homo pacis meæ in quo speravi,
qui edebat panes meos,
magnificavit super me supplantationem.
Tu autem, Domine, miserere mei,
et resuscita me ; et retribuam eis.
In hoc cognovi quoniam voluisti me,
quoniam non gaudebit inimicus meus super me.
Me autem propter innocentiam suscepisti ;
et confirmasti me in conspectu tuo in æternum.
Benedictus Dominus Deus Israël
a sæculo et usque in sæculum. Fiat, fiat.

Psalm 95 (used in a sample Spell to Attain Success)

Venite, exsultemus Domino ;
jubilemus Deo salutari nostro ;
præoccupemus faciem ejus in confessione,
et in psalmis jubilemus ei :
quoniam Deus magnus Dominus,
et rex magnus super omnes deos.
Quia in manu ejus sunt omnes fines terræ,
et altitudines montium ipsius sunt ;
nolite obdurare corda vestra 9 sicut in irritatione,
secundum diem tentationis in deserto,
ubi tentaverunt me patres vestri :
probaverunt me, et viderunt opera mea.
Quadraginta annis offensus fui generationi illi,
et dixi : Semper hi errant corde.
Et isti non cognoverunt vias meas :
ut juravi in ira mea :
Si introibunt in requiem meam.

Psalm 127 (used in a sample spell to Increase Power)

Nisi Dominus ædificaverit domum,
in vanum laboraverunt qui ædificant eam.
Nisi Dominus custodierit civitatem,
frustra vigilat qui custodit eam.
Vanum est vobis ante lucem surgere :
surgite postquam sederitis,
qui manducatis panem doloris.
Cum dederit dilectis suis somnum,
ecce hæreditas Domini, filii ;
merces, fructus ventris.
Sicut sagittæ in manu potentis,
ita filii excussorum.
Beatus vir qui implevit desiderium suum ex ipsis :
non confundetur cum loquetur inimicis suis in porta.

    Hello,nice post thanks for sharing?. I just joined and I am going to catch up by reading for a while. I hope I can join in soon.

  2. Interesting link, I guess if your native language is Arabic, Psalms in Latin could be alien and strange too!

    I disabled the link, google translation reveals the site is full of porn links and linking to that kind of thing can get me slammeed by Google.

  5. Wow, love these latin psalms! What a trip!

  6. Man, I don’t think I get it entirely :) how comes that Pslams are used for their occult potential? You freaked me out, really :P

    • Psalms are used for magic in African American Hoodoo, which is a blend of African American, Native American, Pensylvania Dutch and Jewish occult traditions. It’s a REALLY old idea, likely a Jewish one, that the Pslams are in and of themselves prayers that can be used as magic spells.

      I know, if you’re a standard Christian, you distinguish Christianity from magic. But think about it, book of Mark suggests any Christian is capable of working miracles and the Old Testament is rich with devout miracle workers. So it’s not that ‘magic’ isn’t Christian, magic that doesn’t come forth from God isn’t Christian.

      The laws forbidding magic relate to Egyptian magic, where the magician presumes to use his personal power. In Egyptian magical tradition, the creation of a statue of a God is meant to give a human access to and even power over that God. That is why I believe images of God and practice of (Egyptian or ‘left hand’) magic is Biblically condemned. Working magic, or ‘miracles’, using the power of the one true God – that’s pretty Christian. That’s also the majority of Western magical tradition.

  7. Hi Michael Robin Cooke.Its just a meter of your believe.In world believe system controls most of us.Above Psalms only works for those who believe in these Psalms.

    • Ah, but if you were raised as a Christian or in an environment largely influenced by Christianity, you are deeply shaped by those Christian memes and even if you do not feel you believe, your subconscious most likely DOES.

      The discipline of being a Chaos Magician is the discipline of taking on the idea of ‘nothing is true, everything is permitted’ in such a way as to divorce belief from truth and to master the ability to choose that which you will believe in. Ceremony has the ability to both suspend disbelief and facilitate gnosis, and barking the psalms in the unfamiliar tongue of Latin lends itself as a tool of ceremony.

      So while it is accurate the power in Psalms only works for those that believe, anyone that can suspend disbelief can believe, especially if they already believe subconsciously at least partially already! The proof is in the RESULT, as always.
